Writers and Readers Week opened with a keynote address from acclaimed Australian scientist, explorer and environmentalist, Tim Flannery at the Wellington Town Hall, as part of the New Zealand International Arts Festival. This was followed by a reception in the Council Chambers hosted by Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.
