Oriental Bay

Wellington's Oriental Bay is named for one of the early ships to bring settlers to the region. A scenic part of the inner city, the city council recently relocated tons of sand to create a larger beach for residents and visitors to enjoy.

Raybon Kan, the New Zealand comic, once remarked that when he tells people he grew up on Oriental Parade (the street visible in this image) they look at him like he was living under apartheid. Not the case, but an easy mistake...
